Antelope Canyon is perhaps the most well-known and most photographed slot canyon in the United States. But many people probably don’t realize that you can also kayak a portion of the canyon. Just five miles north of Lower Antelope Canyon on BIA Highway N22B is access to Lake Powell. From here, you can kayak the 2.5 miles from Antelope Point through Antelope Canyon. The water in the canyon eventually dries up, but you will pass through many twists and turns of the sandstone walls before reaching the end and turning around.

We chose to rent kayaks from Antelope Point Marina, but there is also a public boat ramp where you can launch your own. If you plan on renting, I would suggest calling ahead to make a reservation, especially during the busy summer season. Keep in mind that Lake Powell is in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, so you will have to pay a fee to enter (or bring your America the Beautiful Park Pass).

Great alternative to main entrance (which is closed)

Entering Antelope Canyon is closed due to Covid, but you can easily rent a Kayak or Paddleboard from Lake Powell Paddleboards and Kayaks. They load it on your car and you can take it to the public boat launch. It takes about 90 minutes to paddle to the canyon entrance where you leave your Kayak. The Canyon gets smaller and more impressive the further in you go. We even had lunch in there before heading back to the lake. It's the best Kayak experience I've ever had!

Beautiful Canyon

Kayaking into Antelope canyon is quite beautiful. The canyon can be very busy and full of boats in the wider section. In this part of the canyon I would advise staying close to the side. The canyon will eventually narrow to the point where you can't even paddle. I just pushed myself along using the canyon walls.

Beautiful!

probably one of the cooler things I’ve done. We kayaked all the way to the very end of the lake inside the canyon, which was beautiful. We beached our kayaks in the narrow canyon and walked in quite a ways. It looks a lot like antelope canyon, but we didn’t encounter one person and we were able to explore all we wanted. I would highly recommend this for those of you who would like to avoid tourists.

I took my mom on a road trip and this was an awesome experience for her. It's easy, and absolutely beautiful. It's also not too long, so worth it! either bring your own kayak or get a tour from Page AZ.

Gorgeous Slot Canyon

Live near this for a few years. Antelope canyon has gorgeous views and is peaceful to go through. Beware though, don't be in the canyon during a down pour. There are chances of flash flooring.
